Financing Education

The second lead article by Jandhyala B.G. Tilak discusses issues of financing of education in such a vast country like India with high levels of illiteracy. He calls for a comprehensive national plan of funding covering at least the next 10-20 years. He emphasizes the need to invest in teacher training, teacher-learning material, laboratories, libraries and quality research in universities and calls for greater State funding for these to promote quality and standards in education.
