to over six lakh villages
in India where majority
of the over one billion population
live. This is perhaps a major theme
of this year’s budget which has
laid stress on Agriculture and Rural
Development.
Finance Minister Pranab
Mukherjee has made it amply
clear that India cannot return to
high growth path of over nine per
cent in the next two years without
the farm sector growing by 4 per
cent annually. That being the case
he has rightly taken a number of
initiatives in the budget to push
farm sector growth and rural
