Lead article - ‘ Affordable Housing : Future of Urban Development ’ is written by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. In this article, the author has pointed out that the scale and scope being attempted under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( Urban) -PMAY (U) cannot be compared to the experience of any other country in the world. As a result, the success of the Indian model of affordable housing will define the future of urban development the world over, both in theory and practice. PMAY (U) looks to ensure each Indian has a home by 2022 - the celebration of the nation’s 75th anniversary. The second lead article is ‘ Universal Village Electrification in 1000 Days : The Journey’. It is written by Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of Power, government of India. In this article, the author has said that the Prime Minister in his address to the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day on 15th August 2015 announced that the remaining 18500 odd un-electrified villages in the country would be electrified within the next 1000 days. This huge challenge- completion of the target well before the deadline of 1000 days fixed by the Prime Minister became feasible only with the support of States, Discoms, contractors, vendors, equipment manufacturers and people of the states. The Secretary said that the journey for Ministry of Power, however, still continues. Its next target is to electrify all the households in the country. For this it has launched ‘Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana’- Saubgaya to provide last mile connectivity and service connections to all remaining households in both rural and urban areas to achieve universal household electrification in the country by 31st March 2019. Third lead article ‘ Meeting the Energy Needs of Future’ talked about the Central Governments renewable energy expansion programme 2022. It is written by Shri Manoj Kumar Upadhyay Deputy Adviser in NITI Aayog and another young professional Dr Abhinav Trivedi working with NITI Aayog.
